Nestled in 18 acres of lush countryside Cornwall Gold is just as much a family day out as it is a chance to see some true Cornish heritage. With Portreath and Porthtowan beach and Godrevy Heritage Coast just a stone’s throw away, this is a must stop on a day’s adventure exploring this beautiful part of Cornwall’s coast and here are 5 reasons why…
Breakfast ‘Miners’ Style
To start your day, there’s nothing like a Full ‘Cornish’ Breakfast. At Cornwall Gold’s The Cornish Pantry, the three year running Gold Taste Award winner brings your breakfast to you in true miners style, served on a traditional shovel. All the produce is sourced within a 20 mile radius and makes the most of seasonal variation.
Culture and Heritage
Home to Cornwall’s last tin streaming mill, Tolgus Mill is the centre of Cornwall Gold and proudly celebrates the rich mining history that thrived in the valley for generations. Learn about how Cornish tin is produced and smelted and see for yourself the results of the metal combined with silver or gold that make up the Tolgus Collection at the site’s stylish and extensive jewellery showroom, filled with treasures from the mine and stunning pieces to suit all tastes. Whilst the younger members of the family entertain themselves at one of the site’s many attractions, there’s no harm in exploring for something special to treat yourself.
Pan for Gold!
At the Tolgus Stream you’ll be given your own traditional gold pan to sift through in search for gems and hidden treasures. This is free and available to all ages and you’ll be surprised at what you might find.
Create and Paint provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and focus on something entirely creative as you create your own unique designs. Perfect for all the family young and old alike. The team there will even glaze and fire your pieces for you to pick up or you can take them home that day.
We had to throw Krazy Golf in here because honestly, who doesn’t love it? Enjoy a round in the sun with a mining theme. It’s open every day during the Easter break and is only £3.50 for adults, £2.50 for children or £10 for the family.
Of course, there are plenty more reasons to visit this iconic staple in Cornwall’s attraction sites. From free entry and free parking to dogs being welcome across the entire grounds (with water bowls and biscuits at the ready), there’s ample indoor seating in The Cornish Pantry and plenty of food, cake and Cornish cuisine on offer no matter what time of day.
To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Cornwall Gold, visitors who purchase jewellery during the month of June will receive a complimentary slice of celebratory cake!
