The Acorn in Penzance is full of unique events throughout the year. From music and theatre to comedy and film. The festive season see’s them no less exciting, with an array of masterpieces taking to the stage. Here, we’ve selected five ‘must-sees’ if you’re looking for an evening out this November/December.


1. Some Like It Hot – Sunday 4th November 7PM

The 1959 classic that has kept its popularity through the ages, sees two wise cracking musicians on the run after witnessing the Valentine’s Day gangland massacre and are forced to disguise themselves as women and join Sweet Sue’s all-girl jazz band on the next train bound for Florida. With Marilyn Monrow, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis starring, this Billy Wilder classic is still as hilarious as it was nearly sixty years ago.

2. Simon & Garfunkel – Through The Years, Performed by Bookends – Friday 23rd November 8PM

Having toured the globe performing the songs of Simon & Garfunkel in a truly unique way, Bookends are bringing their world class concert to The Acorn. Against a backdrop of iconic imagery with delicate recreation, enjoy many of the duo’s original hits making it the closest thing to a Simon & Garfunkel show to date.

3. Circe’s Diner – Thursday 6th December 8PM

Taking inspiration from Country, Americana, Folk and Pop traditions, the lyrical style, presentation and poetic nature of Circe’s Diner is both thrilling and captivating to watch and listen to.

4. A Vicar of Dibley Christmas – Dates and times vary from the 19th December to the 21st December.

Following on from the very successful Vicar of Dibley stage play at The Minack last year, the Seven Stones theatre company team reunite for a brand new seasonal adaptation. Featuring the comedies famous character, this will be a festive and hilarious show from one of the greatest situation comedies known to British Sitcom history.

5. New Year’s Eve – Ding Dong A Go Go! – Monday 31st December 8.30PM

Spend New Year’s Eve enjoying the sounds of the 60’s 70’s soul, Mowtown, discow, funk, Northern Soul, 60’s R&B and soulful house all on original vinyl for an authentic and immersive sound. Party into the New Year listening to some of the best music from the years before! A range of performances will take place in a fantastic line up including Jo March, Dave Warr and Caroline Dann.
