Port Eliot house and gardens has the rare distinction of being a Grade 1 listed house with a Grade 1 listed park and garden. Like most houses, Port Eliot has a front door and about there the similarity ends. There are 11 staircases, 15 back doors and 82 chimneys. The roof covers half an acre and not once in living memory has it been completely watertight.
Port Eliot will be open to the public from 1st March to 30th June 2014, closed Fridays and May 31st, June 1st, 7th, 8th and 28th. The house and gardens will be open from 2pm to 6pm (last admission to the house at 5pm).
Guided tours of the house are available throughout March from 2 pm and 3.30 pm, included in the normal entry price.
During the month of July Port Eliot hold an festival, ostensibly a literary festival, however with the feel of a garden party, mixed eclectically with music, fashion, and an alternative flower show.
